The world of payments is going cashless. Part of this digital transformation, mobile and contactless technologies play a key role. But not only. In this early IoT era, the future of payments extends well beyond the smartphone. By 2020, 5 billion connected devices will be consumer-facing and could potentially enable payments predicts BI Intelligence. According to Gartner, half of consumers in North America, Japan and Western Europe will already be using a combination of smartphones and wearables to make payments by the end of 2018.

Signs that IoT payments have entered the early adopter phase are multiplying, in particular in the consumer electronics arena. From smart watches to smart rings, washing machines to refrigerators, a broad range of payment-enabled wearables and home appliances are already on the shelves. IoT payments are also moving out of proof-of-concept stage in Retail, Connected Car and Smart Cities use cases.

Embedding payment technologies in connected “things” opens up tremendous business opportunities for both Payments and IoT worlds:
– For Payments, Finance and Commerce industries, expanding their offer beyond mobile phones, cards and point-of-sale devices to billions new digital touchpoints while providing new payments and commerce-related experiences.
– For IoT devices manufacturers, IoT services providers and the likes, enabling payments is key to enhance their business case. They can quickly introduce secure payment experiences for any connected device.
IoT PAYMENTS WORLD will address these business opportunities and the multiple challenges to be overcome at both technology and ecosystem levels. The lessons from mobile payments technologies and markets need to be learnt and extended at the IoT scale. In the first place, fulfilling end-user expectations (the connected consumer, citizen or business), requires a seamless, secure payment experience.

Through tech insights and case studies, IoT and Payments industry leaders, experts and innovators will deliver both actionable content to build and implement IoT Payments solutions in any Vertical as well as matter to think forward end user experience around payment.

Taking over “Cashless World” that covered extensively the new payment technologies and business models, IoT PAYMENTS WORLD focuses on IoT-enabled payment possibilities in the light of mobile payments experience.
